Mary L. Durant, originally from Miami Florida relocated to Tampa Florida shortly after graduating high school at New World School of the Arts. She Graduated from the University of South Florida in Fall 2019 with a B.F.A in dance and was granted the opportunity to travel to Paris with USF’s dance in Paris program. Mary has danced with Moving Current Dance Collective as a contemporary dancer and is now a current company member with Kuumba Drummers & Dancers; an African dance/Drumming company based in Tampa FL. Aside from company work, Mary is currently partnering with The Dance Center (Brandon Ballet) teaching African dance workshops and Modern dance classes. In the Fall she will join The Dance Center as a Jazz instructor. Mary has also partnered with Alex Jones’ company, Project Alchemy, as a teaching artist, where she teaches monthly master classes. Her classes are contemporary modern based, but also focus keenly on choreographic exploration and artist development. Mary’s contribution to the dance world and society is to embody the changes she would like to see, through movement and exploration.
